Unique online adult products help pave the way for Totem Entertainment and its affiliate partnership program, TotemCash.

Based in Paris, Totem Entertainment is an online adult entertainment company that has made its mark providing customers with innovative alternatives to standard adult content. Utilizing software expertise developed in the video games industry, the development team at Totem Entertainment has created some unique desktop software applications that incorporate adult-oriented content. The two products that have hit the market are a real-life adult content desktop animation (Virtuagirl) and an adult content screensaver (Stripsaver). Each is available as a free download and a $24.95 monthly membership gets you the full adult content version plus accompanying access to a selection of image galleries, video libraries and Web sites.

The response to the desktop products has been nothing short of spectacular. In fact, the enthusiasm has been so strong that there are even fan sites on the Internet singing its praises! Totem Entertainment Head of External Communications, Brian Mack explains that interactivity and personalization are the great attraction. “I think the distinguishing factor is that it is unique. It’s not like anything else out there – they are the only…interactive and personalized sites and software products available on the adult online market.” Unlike other adult products, these are meant to be fun. And this reinforces its popularity. “They create a loyalty and following among surfers that no other product in the industry really does,” says Mack.

Having a product that enjoys such widespread acclaim certainly doesn’t hurt business. It actually makes it easier for Totem Entertainment to push TotemCash - its affiliate partnership program for adult Webmasters. Adult Webmasters earn commissions from any referral that signs up with Totem. “We share 50 percent of the profits with our Webmasters…and it’s recurring as well… they get paid every month if the member doesn’t cancel,” says Mack.

Working with TotemCash provides Webmasters with access to a specific market niche and some very high conversion rates. Conversion rates (for the adult industry) typically average 1 for every 500 visitors but “can even go down to 1 in 150 or 200, depending on the type of traffic you have,” says Mack. Again, Totem’s unique product line is a major selling point that results in some very profitable conversion rates. “I think it converts well because it’s not your run of the mill adult content…we’re the only people who do this in the industry.”

TotemCash is an excellent affiliate marketing opportunity that doesn’t have to interfere with a Webmaster’s current relationships. Explains Mack, “When we sell it (TotemCash) to Webmasters, what we tell them - one of the main selling points - is that it (our products) doesn’t take away from other programs that work well on their sites. It doesn’t canibalize other partnerships working well for a Webmaster…but instead adds to their earnings.” And with traffic on the Totem sites measuring in at 3 million hits per month (100,000 per day), you get a good idea of the significant earning potential.

Although Totem Entertainment is based in France, it still does 80-90 percent of its business in North America. The European market presents its own distinct challenges. Foremost among these is the general reluctance to conduct credit card transactions online. Generally, “the culture is very different in Europe for people paying for adult content on the Internet…it hasn’t caught on,” observes Mack.
