June 19, 2006 – (TopHosts News Brief) – Through a malicious Trojan-horse program, hackers have been exploiting Google’s Web site hosting service to steal money, according to security vendor Websense.
Last week, Websense informed the public that a Trojan horse is being hosted on a site with the same IP address as the main Google Pages Web site. Websense says the Trojan seems to have been noticed before any attacks were launched.
Also known as a “keylogger” for its ability to record keystrokes, the Trojan is designed to recognize when a user visits a bank site, triggering the keystroke recording function, Ross Paul, a senior product manager at Websense, said in a Yahoo press release.
It’s typical for criminals to use free hosting services to post dangerous code, Paul said. “Anywhere there is anonymous access to create content is a pretty useful tool for criminals,” he said.
