SAN RAMON, CA (July 11, 2006)—In a move that is being heralded as “so 1999 of them,” Site5 Internet Solutions (www.site5.com) announced today that it would finally begin selling domain names.
“We decided that since the profit margins on domain names have been all but eliminated—with companies going so far as to give them away—that it was a market we couldn’t afford to pass up,” said Site5 Co-Founder and CEO Matt Lightner.
Despite readily admitting that domains are far from the most exciting thing in the industry, Site5’s leaders are nonetheless excited about the addition. The magic, they feel, lies in the extremely easy-to-use interface that is part of their Backstage™ Account Manager software. The interface allows clients to both purchase new domains and transfer old ones through a seamless process.
“Sure, we realize you can buy domain names from anyone for almost nothing nowadays,” President Rod Armstrong explains, “but why would you do that when you can easily buy them through Site5’s revolutionary, fancy-looking AJAX-based Domain Manager?”
David Felstead, a Senior Engineer on the highly distinguished Site5 Engineering Team, led development of the Domain Manager. “It’s just so rewarding to know that our work is continuing to push the limits of innovation in web hosting,” he boasted. “Who knows what crazy new idea we’ll come up with next?” He went on to mention there have been rumors of a groundbreaking new product called an “SSL Certificate,” but he is unable to officially confirm or disconfirm the development progress.
Site5’s new Domain Manager and Domain Registration service are available to new and current clients with a Site5 Shared Hosting package. Site5 has no plans to sell domains “à la carte” at this time. The domain features can be accessed immediately upon the signup of a new account, allowing new customers to painlessly transfer domain names and DNS to their new account.
Domain pricing starts at $8.88 USD for one-year registration, with escalating discounts for longer contracts.
