July 17, 2006 – (TopHosts News Brief) — A recent article, featured in the Daw Web Hosting Blog, says Google brands itself as a censorship institution on the world wide web.
The article, entitled “Google Makes a Move to Become a Global Internet Censor,” reports that the popular Google Adwords system imposes guidelines that set definitions such as “Quality Scores” and “useful landing pages” which causes online advertisers to alter their content to evade high advertising costs.
According to the DawHB.com blog article, Google’s AdWords has increased minimum bids, the lowest amount of money advertisers can spend on any search terms in the Adwords network. For the term “web hosting” Google now charges $0.40. To target Canadian customers as well, the minimum cost per click for keywords ”canada web hosting” has risen to $0.40 per click.
For those wishing to utilize more specific search terms like “image hosting,” even more money must be spent as Google charges advertisers at least $1 for this search term. To make the term “host” searchable, Google requires a minimum bid of $10.00.
The DawHB article states that these minimum bid increases in Adwords create a “global censorship institution” in the Search market by Google. The Search engines claim that they are competent enough to ascertain which websites are good enough by content and which are not.
