Top 10 HostingCon Highlights
1. Pure Delight at FastServers.Net Party
The theme of HostingCon 2006 was: Learn. Network. Grow.
But we’re all social animals at heart so it was unanimous that the FastServers.Net party at Pure Nightclub on Tuesday July 18th lived up to the incredible billing.
2. Daily TopHosts.Com Event Newsletter
Getting a High Five from Derek Vaughan of TechPad Agency as soon as he received the newsletter on Tuesday morning was noteworthy. We received dozens of compliments as attendees had their first coffee of the day, such as: “These pictures are from last night… this is a fantastic idea. TopHosts is owning this event, you guys are everywhere.”
3. Lou Honick Walking the Walk
HostMySite’s CEO made a real impression with his compassion for customer service not only with his “High Quality Customer Service for Hosting” presentation but taking the time to answer each question from a dozen people as I waited for my interview.
4. ‘I maybe young but I’m a Pro’
Ian Andrusyk, CEO of FastServers.Net displayed the professionalism, maturity and attitude required to succeed in this industry. We may be witnessing a changing of the guard right here, right now.
5. Andreas Gauger on ‘Top of the World’
We had lunch with the main man behind the world’s biggest hosting company, 1 & 1 Internet, at the Stratosphere.
While it was a breath taking view of Las Vegas, we got a taste of how it feels to be looking over your shoulder and the across the hosting horizon from a respected leader who is laser-focused on staying on top.
6. What Other Analysts Won’t Do
Special thanks to Tier 1’s President, Andy Schroepfer, for finding us a cigar when there was none to be found at the FastServers party. Andy’s persistence even extended to delivering a quality presentation (What the Other Analysts Won’t Tell You About the Hosting Industry) first thing on Wednesday morning as many were still “sleeping it off”.
7. Best of Show and Showmanship
FasterServers.Net took two TopHosts.Com awards for Best Booth and Most Interactive. The crew’s Jeopardy Game with hosting trivia and introducing a fun element to the Exhibitor’s Area might have dispelled the notion that “Hosting is Boring.”
8. Bad Taxi Driver, Good Limo Driver
TopHosts.Com had the best and worst luck with getting around the strip. The worst: While getting to Kinko’s to print our newsletter Monday night, one freak asked us to get out of his cab because he was tired of waiting. No big deal there but it was pouring rain…that happens very rarely in Vegas. The best: Leo and the courteous gang driving the Hummers (sponsored by TopHosts) kept all the VIPs in good spirit with a leisurely tour of the strip and providing a stylish entrance to Pure Nightclub Tuesday evening.
9. Audio Beats Video
Special thanks to all the Hosting elite who took time to speak to TopHosts during the show: Lou Honick of HostMySite, Harry Hollines of Verio, Ian Andrusyk & Aaron Phillips of FastServers.Net, Team Microsoft, John Lee of Hostway, Andy Schroepfer of Tier 1 Research, Derek Vaughan of TechPad Agency, Dev Chanchani if iNETU, Andreas Gauger of 1&1 Internet, Matt Heaton of BlueHost and Dave Murphy of Hostopia. The outstanding answers and quality of the information are appreciated and will be Podcasted to the TopHosts audience.
10. Not a Mirage: Leaving Las Vegas with Smiles
George Roberts and the HostingCon team organized a spirited event. The attendance was phenomenal; the attendees were enthusiastic; the presenters were engaging; the HostingCon House always wins.
