November 9, 2006 – Verio Inc., a leading provider of hosting and managed services, today announced the third generation of its FreeBSD Virtual Private Server solution (VPS v3) for its viaVerio® reseller partners. VPS v3 is designed to help Verio resellers increase revenue streams by enabling them to better serve their SMB customers with the latest in VPS applications, award-winning technical support and increased disk space.
The new version of Verio’s VPS presents solution providers with more innovative ways to take advantage of a fully isolated system that delivers the functionality of a dedicated server. The solution has been updated with improved server efficiency and support for the newest technologies, based on the FreeBSD operating system.
Resellers can rely on Verio to manage all security updates and backups with the new solution. Additionally, resellers have access to Verio’s proven vinstall tool, providing them the ability to add critical programs or utilities to their server without the need for manual configuration. These programs would include MySQL or Urchin web analytics software.
Verio also provides resellers free live support and Webinar training, giving them the opportunity to get a basic overview of the VPS v3, as well as learn about the solution’s new features and technical specifications. Resellers can sign up for the Web-based training at www.viaverio.com/index.cfm?page_id=44.
“viaVerio resellers consider our VPS offering one of the most popular solutions because we infuse the latest virtualization technologies into a hosted package that is innovative and affordable for businesses,” said Harry Hollines, vice president of OEM and channel sales for Verio. “Web developers, designers and ISVs can serve customers with a solution that provides the dedicated-like features of a VPS, such as privacy and managed services, while maintaining flexibility and cost-effectiveness. Partners will be able to generate solid business growth opportunities by significantly expanding their portfolio of offerings while broadening their client base.”
VPS reseller customers span a variety of industries and use the VPS for a range of business applications, including hosting a Web site, intranet, or custom development environment, or running a CRM application for their business or clients.
Mark Zeitler, Chief Technology Officer for Accrisoft Corporation, believes that the new VPS offers many advantages over version 2, and said that as a viaVerio partner, his business is much more likely to use this latest version when delivering solutions to its clients. “Verio’s new FreeBSD VPS v3 gives Accrisoft the opportunity to offer customers dedicated server functionality without the additional cost and need for server management. The upgrade to the latest version of FreeBSD 6.0 and the added number of new applications allow much more flexibility when designing solutions for our clients. The native threading model for MySQL brings us the biggest win because it allows us more flexibility and scalability in our client deployments.”
FreeBSD VPS v3 users will enjoy a larger amount of disk space. For example, the VPS v3 1000 plan gives users 20 GBs of disk space - up from 14 GBs with the previous plan. Other improved features include an upgrade of the operating system to FreeBSD 6.0, including support for the latest Java implementations on the VPS v3 2000; Apache 2.2.3 comes installed on VPS v3 for faster performance; PHP 5.1.5 adds several new extensions and improved support for popular technologies such as XML, SOAP, MySQL and others, as well as support for object oriented programming. With VPS v3, MySQL performs faster and with better functionality than other VPS solutions.
