November 29, 2006 – (TopHosts News Brief) – After moving key systems to Rackspace Managed Hosting, video game publisher Atari Inc. was honored with a 2006 InfoWorld 100 Award winner, for demonstrating the most creative use of cutting-edge technologies.
By moving to Rackspace Managed Hosting, Atari reduced infrastructure costs by migrating from a proprietary UNIX system to a more flexible open source solution. By hosting its entire internal infrastructure with Rackspace and redeveloping much of its systems on open source software, Atari cut capital expenditure and human resources costs.
With Rackspace managing Atari’s entire back-end systems such as Microsoft Exchange e-mail, Oracle EBusiness Suite — Financials, Order Management, Purchasing and Projects and RMS (a proprietary Royalty Management System) to name a few, Atari’s large IT staff can now be redeployed to focus solely on revenue-generating roles such as game development.
Atari was recognized in the category of Computing and Technology for their IT outsourcing project, which improved total cost of ownership by outsourcing their Linux infrastructure.
“A reliable internal system is critical to the operation of any business,” John Engates, chief technology officer of Rackspace Managed Hosting, said in a PRNewswire release. “Atari’s innovative approach to having us host their entire infrastructure had an immediate impact on their bottom line.”
