December 17, 2007 (TopHosts News Brief) - SoftLayer, a Dallas, Texas-based Web hosting services provider, has opened a new data center in Seattle.
The new facility has 1000 servers ready for immediate delivery. The servers are identical to those offered in its Dallas location, including newer Intel Harpertown processor servers. The company will also offer customers the ability to select the geographical location their server deployment in real time. Customers can also purchase servers in different locations and put them into a “Virtual Dedicated Rack” (VDR).
“Imagine a VDR with two servers in Dallas, five in Seattle, and bandwidth pooled across both data centers. Any server can utilize either location’s local services via our private 10g connection between data centers,” Steven Canale, SoftLayer’s vice president of Sales, said in a press release. “This is just the beginning of our cross- data center virtualization strategy to help customers maximize efficiency and lower overall costs.”
