January 21, 2008 (TopHosts News Brief) - Web hosting services provider 1&1 Internet Ltd. has expanded its European data network.
The company’s overall bandwidth has been expanded to more than 120 GB a second at its data centers in Europe and the United States. It is directly connected to Equinix in Chicago, Illinois, the first major Internet Exchange the company has been connected to outside of Europe. It has also upgraded its European network ring connecting its data centers with important Internet Exchanges in London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam to at least 10 GB per second.
“With the upgrade of our Internet bandwidth, our millions of Web hosting customers in Europe and the US can be sure that their content will reach Internet users worldwide even faster and more reliably,” Andreas Gauger, 1&1’s CEO, said in a statement issued to the media. “As a result of multimedia applications like video streaming, the demand for bandwidth has grown enormously over the last few years. The continuous upgrade of 1&1’s data network shows that despite pessimistic forecasts from some, the boundaries of Internet growth have not yet been reached.”
