Feb. 1, 2008 - (TopHosts News Brief)—Hosting 365 has employed blade server and virtualization technology in a €2m (approx. $3m USD) upgrade to its internet data centre in Dublin, Ireland.
According to a siliconrepublic.com article, HP provided the blade servers and VMware the virtualisation software. Hosting 365’s Managing Director Stephen McCarron told siliconrepublic.com: “A year ago we took a risky outlook on what is required and we decided to build a cloud platform. We had the idea that hosted services can be delivered entirely across a virtualised environment, but bespoke for each customer. It cost us €2m to build out the high-end carrier-grade infrastructure because it required increased processing power and data storage.”
The company hopes to make its Hardware-as-a-service model (HaaS) as viable as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) has become over the past few years.
