March 18, 2008 - (TopHosts News Brief) – Dedicated Web host, SoftLayer, announced that it has drastically advanced its backend systems with a massive upgrade to its fully redundant data warehouse. The company also added an application layer processing cluster to enable a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
Included in the data warehouse expansion is the installation of multi-petabyte storage arrays from EqualLogic (now Dell) to provide the backend data storage powering for all of SoftLayer’s on-demand service offerings. Servers from SuperMicro provide the processing power for the new SOA infrastructure.
“Delivering world-class services on time, every time, requires an internal infrastructure that, up to now, simply did not exist in the market place,” explained Nathan Day, Chief Technology Officer for SoftLayer. “We have created a new model for the industry that combines scalable and flexible data storage with scalable and flexible application processing.” Mr. Day continued, “Our goal is to virtualize all datacenter elements including the hardware, security, network, and embedded services to drive our vision of Serverless IT.”
Collectively, these improvements will accelerate the operation of new features and increase performance for all SoftLayer clients and will enable the company to remain a leader in bringing new products and services to market.
