SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Oct. 13, 2008) – It just became easier for Go Daddy to shut down online predators who target children. Today, President George W. Bush signed the bi-partisan bill, known as the “Protect Our Children Act of 2008,” into law. Go Daddy and others fought long and hard to secure passage of this much needed legislation.
This new law prohibits sending live images of child abuse via the Internet. It also authorizes money to hire FBI agents who work on child exploitation cases. Funds would be used for the development of a nationwide program to fight child exploitation on the Internet. It also provides a grant program and bolsters support for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
“Go Daddy has spent considerable time working on this bi-partisan legislation – we’re very happy,” said GoDaddy.com CEO and Founder Bob Parsons. “For a bill to be approved by Democrats and Republicans, in difficult political times like these, tells you this is important!”
Go Daddy’s General Counsel Christine Jones has appeared before Congress numerous times, providing crucial testimony and statistics as an online industry leader in the battle to keep child pornography off the Internet and protect children from online predators.
Go Daddy has more than 31 million domain names in its portfolio and provides online services for nearly 6 million customers worldwide. Go Daddy is known by many for its racy and effective Super Bowl advertising, but is strictly business when it comes to keeping the Internet safe for everyone.
Go Daddy employs a 24/7 Abuse Department to investigate any and all complaints regarding inappropriate Web sites along with responding to community tips about possible online predators. Go Daddy continues to be vigilant in its quest to keep the Internet safe, devoting substantial time and resources to working with law enforcement when it comes to preserving the integrity of the Internet.
“This legislation will help law enforcement more effectively investigate Internet crimes against children and prosecute online predators more aggressively,” added Parsons.
Go Daddy supported legislation expected to be signed into law next deals with the fight against rogue online pharmacies.
