In about a week the year’s premier Webmaster conference will commence in Las Vegas. WebmasterWorld’s Search and Internet Marketing Conference, known as PubCon will be held on November 11-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A highlight of this year’s PubCon certainly must include the keynote by the creator of one of the most effective and ROI positive viral marketing campaigns of all time, George Wright, VP of Marketing with Blendtec and creator of the ‘Will It Blend’ video series. PubCon features an impressive list of speakers which include many folks from all the major search engines, a who’s who of search engine optimization talent, and tons of interesting social media and new media experts. Past PubCon events have featured a session or two devoted specifically to hosting. This year’s event is no exception featuring a Web hosting panel consisting of Aaron Phillips, VP Marketing with Layered Technologies, Ben Fisher, VP with TechPad Agency, Amy Armitage, Director of Business Development with Lunarpages Web Hosting, and the venerable Curtis Curtis, Senior VP with Superb Internet.
TopHosts caught up with Brett Tabke, CEO of WebmasterWorld.com and the founder of PubCon, to get his thoughts on the most recent installment of his outstanding Webmaster event.
TopHosts.com: Who should attend this year’s PubCon and why?
Brett Tabke: Marketers and Webmasters. Anyone entrusted with the operation or marketing of a website.
TopHosts.com: What (if anything) will be different this year than last year?
Brett Tabke: We have a much broader an bigger topic base this year. Last year was still mostly about search and social media. This year is the realization that search is just the starting point for a website and ”all that we do” as site owners and Webmasters has to cover the entire ecosystem of a website. From operation and marketing, to monetization a modern website manager must be ‘in the know’ in a wide range of disciplines. The days of vertical niche webmastery are over.
TopHosts.com: What do you think will be the highlights of this year’s show?
Brett Tabke: I am really looking forward to this year’s kickoff keynote by Shawn Rorick. He is doing things with Cirque du Solieil marketing, that most of us haven’t even heard about yet. Remember when all the stories about the in video game advertising that presidential candidates were doing hit awhile ago? They talked about how progressive and leading edge it was? Rorick was doing that stuff two years ago already at Cirque. So the question we have to ask, ”is what he is doing THIS year” that we won’t know about until two years from now?
TopHosts.com: Any particular parties or events of note that attendees can take advantage of?
Brett Tabke: We have a charity casino this year in the middle of the networking lounge in the expo hall. After that, there is a party or cocktail reception every night of the conference. My advice would be to start working and get in shape now!
TopHosts.com: For the Web hosting professional (think websites, servers, email, design) what benefits can they get and take away from PubCon?
Brett Tabke: Real world actionable information is what PubCon is best known for - it is our brand. From turnkey shared hosting to cloud computing centers, there will be an expert in the field to talk about each sector. Whatever the issue is that a professional faces, there is an answer and solution here for them.
