SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (May 4, 2009) — ABC broadcast network censors are requiring Go Daddy to use a graphic warning on its new commercial. The warning is not because of what viewers will see on television. It is aimed at warning about the ad’s “continued” content, which viewers will be asked to watch online at www.GoDaddy.com during the May 24 Indianapolis 500 Race telecast.
The commercial is called “Speeding.” It revolves around IndyCar’s Most Popular driver and Go Daddy Girl Danica Patrick, who is pulled over for speeding on a lone desert highway. The police officer expresses a desire to be a spokesperson for the Web site address and hosting provider. As the commercial ends, viewers are directed to see the rest of the story online, and of course the humor unfolds in legendary GoDaddy-esque fashion.
“This is, by far, the hottest commercial we’ve ever made,” said Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons, who was on-set for the film shoot just outside of Vegas. “We designed the Internet-Only version to be eye-popping with a fun twist, but who could’ve guessed censors would require a warning label for what’s on the Web.” Parsons is the brains behind Go Daddy’s world renowned advertising style and recently revealed the broadcast version on his video blog, www.BobParsons.me.
The ad’s star is focused on winning the Indy 500, but Danica did get an advanced screening of the Internet-Only version recently. “It’s no secret Go Daddy really knows how to push the envelope,” Danica said. “I think this commercial will be even more popular than the last one.”
The last big ad Danica did for Go Daddy was ranked as the Most Watched Super Bowl commercial this year, according to TiVo. She also ranked as the Internet’s Most Searched Athlete last year.
“I knew the day I watched Danica make history at Indy in ‘05, that she would be a tremendous Go Daddy Girl,” Parsons grinned. “I defy you to name another spokesperson who brings so much to the table. Danica is intelligent, she’s focused, she’s accomplished…she has a great sense of humor and she’s smoking hot!”
Go Daddy signed Danica just months after she drove into the record books by leading the 2005 Indianapolis 500 for 19 laps. This is the third consecutive year Go Daddy has served as the presenting broadcast sponsor for the May 24 Indianapolis 500 Race.
