(PRLEAP.COM) Philadelphia, PA, June 29, 2010 — NamesBeyond, a leading global domain name registrar, today announced the availability of support for DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) for .ORG domain names, adding an extra layer of security for all .ORG domain name holders.
“DNSSEC is an important step in reducing vulnerabilities in the Domain Name System,” said Uma Murali, President & CEO, NamesBeyond. “.ORG domain name owners who want to apply DNSSEC security to their domain names can now do so with NamesBeyond .”
This month, Public Interest Registry, the operator of the .ORG domain, announced that they had enabled the signing of second level domains in .ORG,enabling.ORG domain name holders to make their names more secure. Each .ORG domain, in order to avail of the enhanced DNSSEC security, must also be signed, and must store the security signature with the .ORG registry.
“We are pleased that NamesBeyond is the first registrar to support DNSSEC for .ORG domains,” said Alexa Raad, CEO of .ORG, The Public Interest Registry. “Deploying DNSSEC needs careful attention to detail. NamesBeyond provides a critical link to ensuring .ORG domain owners can sign their domains and upgrade the security and stability of their domains.”
NamesBeyond has deployed a registration system which enables .ORG domain name owners to sign their individual .ORG domain names. As the first DNSSEC-enabled, authorized .ORG registrar, NamesBeyond will submit the signed domain keys to the .ORG registry in a scalable, automated manner.
“Registrars like NamesBeyond will help .ORG domain name owners to quickly sign their names,” said Steve Crocker, CEO of Shinkuro and co-ordinator of the DNSSEC Deployment Working Group and member of the Board of Directors of ICANN. “We congratulate NamesBeyond on enhancing the ability for .ORG registrants to enhance the security of their domain names.”
About Domain Name Security Extensions (DNSSEC)
DNSSEC ensures that requests to visit an Internet web site reach the intended destination.
