Small businesses don’t know enough about cloud hosting. A Rackspace survey indicates that as much as two thirds of UK and US small businesses lack knowledge of cloud hosting despite the fact that it is one of the largest growth areas in the Web hosting industry. Good news is on the horizon. There are more conferences that will address this area. Also, Amee Kent of Hosting.com will have a complimentary Cloud Computing eBook (available in mid-February) based on a survey of nearly 700 individuals over December and January.
Next up, I've discovered that Utah State is the closest thing we have to a Web Hosting University. That's a stretch of course, but isn't it a great idea?
WestHost, part of the UK2.net family by acquisition, recruits actively from Utah State. Given that the company has a great track record of reliabilty, as indicated by the Netcraft awards over the years, there's probably something special there in the employment mix. Add to that a tip of the hat from WestHost General Manager Brian Chambers, who said: "We have been hiring students from USU for the past 6 years. Many students start off with WestHost after just a year or two in school, complete internship credits with us, and have opportunities to advance in our company before they even graduate."
Incidentally, over 60 percent of WestHost's staff are either alumni or current students at USU. Guess where I'm going when I finally start my own Web hosting company?
Lastly, and probably least interesting is that I'm not immune to clever marketing from Web hosting companies. So, like millions of others, I will check Go Daddy's "too hot for TV" ad on their website on Super Bowl Sunday. But unlike millions of others (it seems), I'm betting on the Cardinals.

The making of a great WebhostingDay
