When you enter the crowded Web hosting market nowadays, you had better be prepared to offer customers the world. Nick Baker, Managing Director, of Just Host and his team have responded with: ‘The Last Hosting Plan You Will Ever Need’.
It's obvious that there was no shortage of companies offering affordable Web hosting when Just Host moved into the market recently. What new things did the company bring to the table, or what aspects of the business did you target to do better than existing hosts?
We were aware of how competitive the web hosting industry was, so we knew we had to go that extra step to secure customers and build up a good reputation, so we invested heavily in support, systems and infrastructure from the beginning. At the time of our launch Just Host was one of the first companies to come in with the ‘Everything’s Unlimited’ plan and an Anytime Money Back Guarantee. We thought by offering this we were giving the customers everything they could possibly ask for, hence our trademark ‘The Last Hosting Plan you Will Ever Need’.
We also introduced instant set up, so no waiting times for account approval or set up. All this combined I think helped us to grow a strong reputation from the start, which I hope we are living up to.
Tell us about your past involvement/experience in Web hosting and what impact it now has on your market approach to the industry. Are there any companies in the industry that you admire or whose success you'd like to replicate?
Although the other Just Host directors have experience in owning and running their own web hosting companies, my previous involvement in web hosting was actually as an affiliate sending the sales. This meant I knew just how tough it was to gain hosting customers in a cost effective way and I think has given me that upper hand in a lot of areas.
There are so many companies in the industry I admire, it’s hard not to admire all of them as I know just how hard and stressful running a web hosting company is. If I had to pick out a company whose success I would love to replicate I would have to say GoDaddy, although I think GoDaddy’s success will never be replicated.
Owner Bob Parsons is a very clever guy; his marketing ideas are crazy and just always seem to work. He made ‘web hosting’ a term the average Joe finally understood and made a lot of people feel comfortable buying their own domain name and experimenting with creating their own websites.
Has there been any major victories for the company so far? If we were to fast forward a year, what sorts of things would we celebrating in terms of accomplishments?
We have actually been very lucky and keep winning hosting awards from top host discussion websites like yours so we are always very proud of those. More recently we just hit 50,000 customers, which we could never have predicted was even achievable in our first year.
Moving forward a year I hope we would be celebrating 200,000 customers, and of course even more awards from the top web hosting review and discussion sites.
Do you think the immense popularity of social media/networking has helped the company in its early stages of development? How has the company used the medium in marketing efforts so far?
