I just read a bulletin on the Federal Trade Commission site that the San Jose-based Web hosting provider, Triple Fiber Network or 3FN.net has been shut down.
According to the FTC news brief, the firm allegedly “recruits and colludes with criminals seeking to distribute illegal, malicious, and harmful electronic content including child pornography, spyware, viruses, trojan horses, phishing, botnet command and control servers, and pornography featuring violence, bestiality, and incest.”
I don't recall of any such stern measures being dished out by a district court judge on behalf of the FTC where a web hosting provider or ISP was implicated.
Until this point 3FN.net has purported that since 1999 "it has established a flawless reputation as an excellent and reliable web hosting service provider."
Apparently the company is registered in Oregon under the name Pricewert LLC but the owners and staff are based outside of the U.S. 3FN.net's press releases have indicated that it has established offices worldwide including the UK, India, Russia and other countries in the European Union.
There are more than 15,000 websites that have been affected according to a story appearing in the Washington Post. The news report also notes that blogs in Russia have posted that many 3FN customers have moved their sites to other hosting companies and that representatives from 3FN have been telling customers to expect their sites to be up and running within hours or days.
