What’s going on with Go Daddy and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)? I was wondering the same thing while reading the press release until I saw the ”Ring Girls” part and then it made sense.
But it didn’t necessarily have to include the sexy girl element to get Go Daddy as a major sponsor, even though that familiar formula works flawlessly. Why MMA though?
"I'll tell you why we are sponsoring MMA," offers Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons. "The sport is exploding in terms of its growth, its fans are fiercely loyal, the competition is exciting and the audience is Internet savvy. This sport has a 'loud attitude,' its right up our alley."
There it is. Some consider MMA the fastest growing sport in America. Some see it as the next NASCAR. Others think the sky is the limit. The fact that Go Daddy has jumped into the sponsorship ranks speaks to how mainstream the MMA has become.
I'm sure there will be bets made on the title fight between former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title holders Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko (30-1-0), and Josh "The Babyfaced Assassin" Barnett (24-5-0). You'd be a fool to bet against Parsons making somewhat of a killing on this deal though.
