At the Web hosting Expo in DC in 2001, if you recall, the tech bubble was bursting and the industry was still very much in growth mode. In 2009, with the greatest recession to sideswipe the economy in our time, the Web hosting industry continues to flourish. We have a good thing going here don’t we?
Consider the topics that dominated the keynotes back in 2001:
* growth and rapid change in Web hosting
* Consolidation
* implementing scalable technologies
* Multi-hosted environments & technology design and implementation
That’s pretty eerie; when you consider that you'll get plenty of the same and more at this year's presentations.
Cloud hosting dominates the agenda again. If you've attended any of the major Web hosting or IT conferences over the 18 months, Cloud Computing, Hosting and Storage were unavoidably on the agenda. If you haven't made it to any of those shows or still need to bone up on this latest phenomenon, you are in luck here at HostingCon.
On Tuesday, I'd definitely check out the non-nonsense, cut-to-the-chase sessions like Capitalizing on Cloud Computing Opportunities moderated by Antonio Piraino of Tier1 Research and featuring industry experts including: Sandip Gupta of Netmagic Solutions, Justin Barney of 3Leaf Systems and Cameron Bahar of ParaScale.
Later in the afternoon, “Offering Cloud Services to Your Customers” promises to show how you can significantly increase your profits by providing cloud services as part of hosting offerings. Are you ready?
And the Tuesday game plan requires that you finagle a pass to The Parallels/Mr. Softy party at Pose.
Fret not if you can't, GNAX/Net Depot will help you wet your whistle. And if you still need options how about two of the best 100 bars in the US right in the area: The Tune Inn and the Hawk n Dove. Stay thirsty my friends.
