If you are looking for a good Cloud Computing conference in the next few weeks and live in the UK, boy are you in luck. While it absolutely shouldn’t, it still surprises me the level of attention the whole Cloud Computing scene is generating. I mean Gmail goes down for a couple of hours and you find dozens of articles and blogs that put the whole industry on trial.
And just today there’s an article by SYS-CON Media on The Top 150 Players in Cloud Computing - from AT&T to Zuora. The article is timely in that only a “mere 100” were listed in January; that’s a good gauge of the growth in the past few months alone. Incidentally, it’s good to see popular Web hosts like Layered Tech, Rackspace Hosting, Hosting.com and Savvis are on that list.
When you think about it though, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) was launched three years ago. That launch in August 2006 is what SYS-CON refers to as the event that "single-handedly brought Cloud Computing to the very forefront of public awareness."
So what this really means is that the conference people are merely waking up to the fact that there's some catching up to do. So if you haven't caught any of the shows over the past couple of weeks like VMworld 2009, there's plenty of others in place, and very likely, plenty of more in store.
