The economic climate has not impacted NaviSite’s goal in building market share. The company’s resolve in bringing enterprise class Web hosting to the SMB has never been stronger, emphasizes NaviSite’s Sumeet Sabharwal, Senior VP of SMB Hosting.
TH: The recession, even with hints of a rebound, has impacted all business sectors including Web hosting. What are some of the challenges that NaviSite faces in this environment and how well is the company equipped to deal with these challenges?
SS: I want to assure you that we are running business-as-usual and will continue to serve existing and new customers with the same sense of urgency and commitment as we’ve always had. Our distinct value proposition to the market remains unchanged, our employees are committed and our operations are strong. All of us at NaviSite continue to work hard to maintain that momentum and support businesses of all sizes.
TH: Does your company research or sales for that matter, show that companies considering the move from dedicated hosting to managed dedicated (or fully managed hosting) are postponing the move due to the economic slowdown?
SS: Quite the contrary. Managed dedicated hosting in both the SMB and Enterprise segment is growing. The savings that can be obtained by any business that moves their servers to a hosted environment in a professionally owned and managed data center is now apparent at all levels. From business insurance savings, to capital savings and human resource savings, consolidating and moving servers to a provider like NaviSite can bring big benefits, including technology rationalization and modernization. History shows that during an economic slowdown, the smart companies that continue to grow or be profitable in the slowdown will be the fastest growing after the slowdown has ended. With services that meet the needs of the small businesses to the large, this is a period where NaviSite will grow its market share.
TH: What are some of the reasons customers offer for choosing your Virtualized Hosting Services / AppStructure Platform? Has adoption in this area met or exceeded expectations?
SS: Our virtualization product strategy continues to outperform our expectations. Customers are choosing this platform for the flexibility and lower costs that only Virtual dedicated servers can provide. Virtual dedicated servers are a great solution for customers that need the power of a separate server, the reliability of SAN storage and the flexibility of month to month solutions which enable easy upgrades in RAM and CPU cores.
TH: Are you able to discuss any future plans NaviSite has in the Cloud Hosting area and a timetable for product releases?
SS: NaviSite’s AppStructure is our next-generation application infrastructure cloud computing platform, designed to tackle the technology challenges faced by enterprises. This dynamic platform combines three of the most powerful technologies of the decade – Virtualization, SOA, and Web 2.0, all delivered via a single platform to eliminate the boundaries that exist between infrastructure, application, and services. It is a flexible platform that can evolve to meet the changing requirements within each technology tier, so that business can respond and adapt quickly to the changing needs in today’s global, competitive and turbulent business landscape.
TH: How has the company’s Dedicated Hosting offerings addressing the SMB market performed so far? How significant is this market to NaviSite’s growth?
