Shelby Garlock, Director of Marketing at Codero, discusses how today’s data-demanding applications continue to drive the need for robust Online Backup and Recovery Solutions.

TH: Codero moved into the Online Backup stream in 2009. What signals in the marketplace or what business discussions in the company prompted the move?

SG: It was the result of the significant demand we’re seeing. Product/service choices for online backup in the market have been expanding exponentially over the last year. Our customers are typically small- to medium-sized businesses with high-volume stores and data-demanding applications that require flexible, ongoing backup and data recovery. So we recognized the time was right to offer a secure backup solution bundled with a simple, reliable restoration process.

TH: EVault was chosen as your partner in providing automated Online Backup and Remote Backup for dedicated server customers. What were the primary reasons for selecting EVault? What was most impressive about EVault's services?

SG: We carefully researched a number of partners and considered developing our own proprietary solution. EVault Backup turned out to be the best approach we could possibly offer to customers. There were several advantages in choosing EVault: fast restores of designated files/databases and the ability to backup busy servers without interruption. But we were most impressed with EVault’s secure facility and end-to-end 256 bit encryption capabilities. Ultimately, it came down to the overall value of the solution (ratio of features to price) – and EVault came out ahead in almost every category.

TH: What are the strongest concerns that customers relay on the need for Online Backup and Recovery. How does Codero's solution(s) help alleviate these pressing concerns?

SG: The strongest concern is data loss and subsequent recovery time. The real and potential threats to data loss and uptime continue growing, from power outages and service failures to security breaches and network downtime and the seemingly endless stream of version updates. Other concerns include meeting encryption compliance standards, minimizing IT costs and continuous data protection. Disaster Recovery - To recover lost data, Codero Online Backup works across dissimilar operating systems. As an FYI, many businesses don’t backup at all or use tape which often fails, is not encrypted or still has to be transported, remounted, etc. – all adding to recovery time.

Security/Compliance Often banks, credit unions, healthcare, etc. are required by law to encrypt their data. We employ ‘six flavors’ to and from our vault.

RTO/RPO - Most businesses can’t afford to lose their data or become non operational/“off line”. Having an online solution accessible via our portal allows them to recover in minutes or hours what previously may have been unrecoverable or took days to accomplish.
