I'm writing this article as a heads-up: Do your research before you select your webhost. This is a genuine article, describing my experiences with
www.SiteGround.com.
Siteground claim to have great customer service - but I've found that their tech support is shocking. My site was downed twice in the matter of 1 week, through a variety of stupid errors on SiteGround's side.
Here's one of the gems:
I wrote to Siteground requesting them to transfer one of my subdomains (which was held with them) to a new account, also with SiteGround (I later regretted choosing SiteGround again...). Here is a history, as read through my support tickets.
22/Apr: I requested a site transfer, with the explicit request (quote): "Please make very very very very very sure that neither account is disturbed"..."both sites MUST be working and all emails MUST be working properly, this is business critical, thank you. I wasn't impressed at the several day outage"..."last week"
23/Apr: Siteground staff completed the transfer- "I am glad to inform you that your site has been transferred as requested."..."Senior Support Team, SiteGround.com"
23/Apr: I logged on later that night to check on things... but, lo and behold, my email was not working. My ticket to SiteGround.com again: "My email is now not working"..."What's the story? Please bring this to the attention of your senior management. I am very disappointed with your service." ..."I don't know what is so difficult about a simple site transfer"
23/Apr: 20 minutes later, I worked out what was going out. Their "Senior Support Team" had forgotten to re-create my mailboxes on my new domain! What nuts! So I wrote to them again: "So I am working faster than you guys, and it's not even my office hours over here. Anyway, I just recreated my email accounts in cpanel"..."and things seem to be working finally."
So don't believe them when they claim to have great service! Try another hosting service - or you'll be sorry. Let the consumer beware ;-)
