Default Long sales copy versus short sales copy.

I am a believer in long sales copy. The long sales copy I've used on my site has worked much better at converting visitors than the short sales copy. But then I have a higher ticket sales item ($99).

I'm starting to see, though, sales copy that goes beyond the description "long"--ENORMOUS would be a better world, or NEVER-ENDING.

Honestly, I -never- read all of that copy and almost always get bored and leave the site.

Does this super-ultra-long copy work for anybody?

If your in hosting the latest trends show that a short copy, that is more direct and to the point will work more efficiently at converting.

What product are you trying to sell?

Agreed on the short copy point. It would primarily be dependent on your target market.

Local market hosting would most likely react better to a longer copy, whereas the global more cut throat online market needs a short copy.

I know this thread is old, but it caught my eye and I had to add my 2 cents to it…

Speaking in terms of conversion, it doesn’t really matter if your copy is long or short. What matters is what you say in your copy and how you say it. People will read long copy if you give them a reason. Likewise, short copy is useless if someone doesn’t see what they’re looking for.

Newsguy, if your longer copy works better, is it because it does a better job at convincing your readers that they need your product? Can you say it in fewer words?

ZipServers, I agree with you -- but short copy that is to the point with clear, benefit-driven statements will work in any industry.

There are some instances where it’s good to break the conventions and do something different. Yet people read web copy differently than printed copy – you don’t have a lot of time to grab their attention and hold before they click away!

Short copy is the best in my opinion, keep it like the post from Bluejean, a few short paragraphs of no more than 2 or 3 lines of text

Much easier to read that way and doesnt get boring

People make the mistake of writing endless lines of text with no breaks

2 or 3 lined paragraphs with your keywords or phrases in there and that will work as long as those keywords are in your title and description

Thas how i do it anyway and seems to work for me
