What are your experiences about internet directories?

Have they been successful in bringing traffic to your site?
Have they affected your Google page rank?

Why don't you post articles to Wikicommerce.org and other similar free & business oriented wikis instead of submitting your url to different directories. I bet wikis are more effective than 100 link directory submissions. The quality of the backlinks will be much higher this way.
