What are Labor Relations?
Hi
Labor relations is a broad field encompassing all the myriad interchanges between employers and employees. While labor relations is most often used to discuss this exchange as it pertains to unionized employees, it may also refer to non-union employees as well. Labor relations are dictated in a large part by the government of a nation and the various regulations it provides to industry regarding the treatment of employees.
In the United States, labor relations gained a huge boost with the passage of the National Labor Relations Act in 1935. This act covered a wide range of labor rights, including the right to strike, the right to bargain as a union, and a general right to protest and take action to achieve their desires. The National Labor Relations Act, also known as the Wagner Act, gave most employees these rights. It was upheld by the Supreme Court in 1937.
Thanks

Re: What are Labor Relations?
Hi
To protect the rights mentioned above, the Wagner Act also created a new federal agency, the National Labor Relations Board. The sphere of the National Labor Relations Board, and the Wagner Act itself, is limited only to employees operating in the private sector. Government employees, anlong with the employees of some mass transit (rail and air), are covered under a separate labor relations act, the Railway Labor Act.
thanks

Re: What are Labor Relations?
Labor Relationships can, more broadly, any transactions between management and workers on the conditions of employment. Most often, however, labor relations refers to transactions between management and labor that is already unionized, or has the potential to become unionized. The working relationship is crucial for industries like automobiles and airlines facing the large unionized workers.

Re: What are Labor Relations?
Labor relations can refer broadly to any dealings between management and workers about employment conditions. Most commonly, however, labor relations refer to dealings between management and a workforce that is already unionized, or has the potential to become unionized. Labor relations are thus crucial to industries like autos and airlines with heavily unionized workforces. In the U.S., labor relations were profoundly affected by the National Labor Relations Act passed during the 1930s, which gave workers the right to form unions and bargain collectively. Labor relations have also been importantly affected by passage of the Taft-Hartley Act, which prohibited the "closed shop," as well as the introduction of right-to-work laws in more than 20 states. By the early 21st century, labor relations were less affected by labor unions, to which only 8% of private sector workers belonged in 2004, about half of the rate in 1983. The decline reflects the increase in labor relations consultants, who have helped managements avoid unionization
