How are images searched by Google?

I heard that Google has improved the algorithms of seraching images and now it's possible to get images of people only if that's what you need. What's more they plan to require photos from users to start gmail account.

I always get bad result while search Images in google,Google algorithm is not good for seeking images, I mostly use yahoo for image searching..
