Default Keywords are dead. Try keyword phrases

Hello all. I'm surprised at the lack of useful information posted in this forum. The forum is "search engine optimization" and I don't see much of the seo talk goin' on in here.

Ok, so a SEO idea:

These days content is king.

Our buddy Googlebot likes to scan the content on your website to determine how relevant your website is in relation to keywords people type in the search box. What you place in your header tags (i.e. <h1> <h2> <h3>) and the text on your site which are actually links are highly relevant.

So, give Googlebot some bread crumbs. When optimizing your website for search engines, think about what people would type in Google's search box to find your website and try incorporating those phrases in your headers and links.

Of course, you should always write your page for people, not search engines. After all, who cares if you get the #1 position on Google or Yahoo if your website never converts to sales.

So write for people, but if you can write for both Google and people, that's a win-win situation for you.

Now for those keywords in your <meta> tags, go ahead and through them in there, it never hurts. But these days, they aren't really relevant.

If you'd like to learn more about marketing, web development, and such, feel free to visit our site, eVentureBiz, and start up a discussion in our forum or comment on my blog.

I'm always here to help people learn.

John, I think that keywords are the most important part of the SEO. Because keyword=search engine request. IMO

Agreed. Effective use of keywords (and phrases) are the most important. While the keywords you put in your <meta> tag are less in value these days, it's still good to use it.

Everyone knows Google places high value on inbound relevant links to websites, but if you don't tell Google what kind of content you have by use of keywords & phrases, it won't know how to index you.

I'd like to point out though, I've been achieve much better success by using keyword phrases over simply using keywords.

For example, if I owned a pest control company in Las Vegas, NV, I might use keywords like "pests, removal, control, business, spray" etc.

When someone goes to Google it's unlikely that they will type just one of these words in the search box. Their search query might be something more like this:
"Las Vegas pest control and removal"

Now if your website had that phrase in a <h> tag, you'd get indexed better because your search is more focused and you'll beat out that Florida pest control company in search rankings.

If anyone would like to discuss more topics about marketing, web development, real estate, n stuff, feel free to click over to our site and hook up with me in our community forum.

What would be a nice key word density %?

Exsample: key word "lingerie"
Checked out the top 3 sites,
1 count 39 density 12.38%
2 count 14 density 2.2%
3 count 76 density 17.8

Seems like there all over the place so how id Google seeing this?.

Hey Warrior, that's a great question, but keyword density isn't all that it's cracked up to be - and there are a number of reasons why:

-> Google's search algorithm does not place more weight on a word just because it's used more
-> people who opt to insert the same keyword over and over again will probably make their sites read better for search engines than people
-> in order to repeat many of the same words, it is likely that the content will have to be rearranged in a way that what could have been a keyword "phrase" is now just a keyword (i.e. the preceding text won't be a relevant search term someone would type in a search box.

Those examples you looked at really are meaningless to us because there are so many other factors that must be considered:
- how long have they been around
- how many relative links point to them
- which is using keyword phrases better
- who's using a better combo of links, bold text, and <h> tags
- who's web address is better optimized

Remember, I'm stressing keyword phrases - that's where it's at.

If my memory doesn`t fail me, there are some special steps to promote a web site.
1) you should create and include meta tags on every page;
2) Self-promotion allows you to promote your site to over different search engines, indexes, etc. (selfpromotion.com);
3) GoTo.com can bring targeted traffic to your site at a low cost;
4) PRweb - press releases are one of the most effective ways to generate traffic to your site.
Also you shouldn`t forget to choose specific key words, phrases, expressions, word combinations suitable to the content of the site!

Thanks for the information guys. It's better to use Keyword combination, as it will be more effective I think.
