Cleaning the outside of the computer is the easiest, and often most rewarding part of the process. As of course it is something you see everyday. To clean the outside of the computer you need only follow the steps listed below.

1. Grab a nice cleaning solution. We always just use “Fantastic”, but they do sell case cleaner if you want to be specific.

2. Turn off and disconnect your computer. Place it on a table somewhere, like your kitchen, not on the carpet.

3. Spray the cleaner on a rag or paper towel. DO NOT spray it directly on the computer to avoid creating too much moisture.

4. Rub gently, but don’t be afraid to amp it up on dirty spots and in corners. Really get that case clean! Be careful when it comes to cleaning the back of the computer. Don’t stick a wet dirty rag into say, the USB port.

When cleaning, be careful not to accidentally adjust any knobs or controls. In addition, when cleaning the back of the computer, if anything is plugged in, make sure not to disconnect any of the plugs.
When cleaning fans, especially the smaller fans within a portable computer or laptop it's suggested that you either hold the fan or place something in-between the fan blades to prevent it from spinning. Spraying compressed air into a fan or cleaning a fan with a vacuum may cause damage to some fans or in some cases cause back voltage.
Never eat or drink around the computer.
Limit smoking around the computer.
