How can I get around optimizing a flash website if crawler-based search engines can't spider the site? Do I have to lose the flash or are their any work-arounds?

It is difficult to optimiz the flash site however i suggest to use partial flash and partial text in home page

You can use flash headers on your website as it will provide attractive look to your website plus will also keep you away form keeping the whole site in flash !!

You can also do it in frames with a *,100 setting to get a content page in there, also try out utilizing the no embed tags

Usually all the SEO GURU's out there advice to have a simple html web site if you want SE's to visit your site, But if u really want some flash then u should go for it but remember that u cannot kill 2 birds from one ammoo
