Does anybody know if there is a software that can tell you Google's keyword search numbers? I know that Overture has a search suggestion tool - but my question is one is ranked 15th for a much more popular term and then 5th for a much less popular term what is the expected search traffic and click rate percentages so that you can know where to focus your SEO efforts?

Here's a scenario - you're ranked on the 2'nd page for 'web hosting' and it gets a bazillion searches/month but your ranked on the first page at # 7 for the search term, 'low cost vps hosting'. Which is better? Any software that can tell you the difference?

There are lot's of theories and very well proven methods to increasing top search results with G.
Backlinking, page saturation, cross-linking, targeted content, descriptive URL's, relevant keywords, a well defined description, valid code...all per page of your site! It takes work, and knowing your competition.

Start with an indepth case study of your strongest competitor. This can help you get a good start.

Google seems giving more and more importance on content these days. I agree with Gregory-Eric, you need to research on your competitor in depth and check what you are missing.
