Sorry i haven't used their services for registering the Domain name,i used paid Domain name ,Free Domain name is best for small tutorial and basic site with 2 pages,But for Big and professional site you can go for paid Domain Name,You can get the Domain name registration service from www.whoisxy.com and make your own domain name .
As well as glowhost.com are the organizations which provide many no cost functions not only areas for their clients. Think this function is quite enchanting and it appeals to many clients to them.
Most hosting companies only provide a domain name if you purchase a hosting solution that is paid on a annual basis. IMHO, that is not considered free, and you have paid for that domain name.
Also, most of the time the domain name is not registered to you, it is registered to the company itself, therefore keeping you as a client, even if would not like to be (because you value your domain name, and have no other choice).
