Experts from the University of Richmond and University of Michigan studied the effects of offshore outsourcing on customer satisfaction from 1998-2006. Prof Jonathan Whitaker, M. S. Krishnan, and Claes Fornell used the American customer satisfaction index in interpreting the results.
The study involved in-house and offshore customer service. Customer satisfaction declines markedly with offshore customer service, but ironically the decline is as marked as the decline with local outsourced customer service. The result cancels each other: This suggests that there are other reasons why customers are not happy about offshore and leased staff services. And these reasons are common to both offshore and local outsourcing. Whatever those reasons are, it's too early to tell, especially at this point.
