Most companies including ours are secure. The biggest exposure most people have is thier own code. Don't use scripts you can't trust. Always search for known hacks to any script before you install it. Lock down your site as best you can and if you're not sure what to do hire a pro.

Yes, its not just about any hosting company. Its up to you to take precausions, like having good passwords, a hardware firewall, not keeping any ports open, except HTTP.(VPN for even FTP) and so on..
