Actually It will depend on your requirements. But a standard is quick support.

Lemme give you an example - Lunar pages has a really really good reputation but they will never let me run vbulleting on their servers ( odd but they will repeat it again and again that they encourage you to use phpbb and hacking phpbb to level of vB or IPB is a pain in *** ) . So they may be good for someone but not me


IMO Support Forums is not always a criteria to find a good host , there exist a lot of good ones which do not have support forums eg citadelhost.

I'm a web developer and have relied on Top Host recommendations over the last few years.. found their ratings right on and have used probably 5 of them as well as one I found on my own that was cheaper for my clients with low budgets - Seanic.net at $3.92/month.. hard to beat as long as you don't need too many special features. Love Hostway for quick support, 100% up time and easy access to upload or change hosting features.

Maybe I should post a similar online blog (to the one for AIT) for Aplus.net (names4ever.com) and my problems with them. I could link to it from my journalists sig line saying "looking for a good web host and domain name registrar? Here who to AVOID." I mean, I used to be a freelance writing scams reporter so I think I could create a VERY interesting blog....

I really think we need a central place to discuss BAD web hosts and registrars... Time to do a google search....

Linda, your question was a little vague. Asking what is a good hosting company isn't the proper question. You should ask yourself what are your site requirements and what is the monthly maximum you are willing to pay. Then do your due diligence. Also, its always good to email their support (instead of calling) because that way you will see how fast a hosts' support is.

That's right. There is no just a good hosting company. Everyone is good with their own features and services. Some offer more, some less.
First important is quality of the servers and bandwidth availability
Second is support that replies within 2 hours max and usually 15 mins 24/7.
Third is sometimes the hardest to meet all customers' expections.
And the last and sometimes the first that makes clients buy from this or from that hosting is the Price!
