What's the use of a forum if no one it's going to reply?

My understand is that the forums are very new here. As for your question, well I can answer it and say the company I work for is a very good one, but I would be biased. :-)

There are many, and I do have personal experience with quite a few of them. I will get together a list of some I feel personally are good and post it shortly.

I think that there are a lot of things to consider for a good hosting company. Perhaps scalability and support are two of the biggest. Can the company support your unique technical needs? Can they get back to you in a time frame that is acceptable for you? Not everybody needs a 2 minute response time - personally, i'd rather have something done right than have it done right away. Additionally, I'd look to see if you can grow with the host and what other services they provide as part of their solution set.
- can you go to a dedicated solution or colocate your own server there down the road?
- can you run ecommerce software on the server or do they provide their own - ie credit card processing, shopping cart, etc..
- do they provide a knowledge base of information to help you in your web and html needs?
- do they provide you with marketing tips and Search Engine help?

Hope that helps

Toll Free support that answers the phones. Sales guys that are honest.

And a 30 day money back guarantee so you can go break things and make sure it's right for you.

It really depends on your requirements. There are thousands of hosting companies out there, its just a matter of finding which one best suits your needs.

Exclamation I can tell you what is NOT good hosting

There are actually quite a few good hosting companies. Probably more good

ones than bad.
My experience is that before you select one, 'google' them.
I had a terrible experience with AIT Inc hosting (www.ait.com) /

Securelook (www.securelook.com) same company.
After paying securelook $69.00 (non refundable...they say) for a

supposedly secure SSL server, and uploading and configuring my ecommerce

site to work with it, I experienced over 10% down time in the first 40

days! Not to mention several times when the file permissions mysteriously

changed, the site came up as access denied, and I would have to upload all

of the files again to get it to work. Support there is useless. They

don't return calls and email back that either everything is fine, or, the

server is undergoing 'unscheduled mainte*****'

I subsequently 'googled' AIT / Securelook and quickly found out that I

wasn't alone. There are many complaints floating around out there. If

you find a couple of complaints about a hosting company, well, stuff

happens. But if you find a monumental archive of unsatisfied customers

and former employees, as is the case with AIT hosting and Securelook, then

I would be very hesitant. There are complaints with the BBB, on many

forums like this one, apparent legal filings and even a site dedicated to

spreading the word called aitsucks.com. Also you need to be careful with

'Hosting Companies' that are just reselling for what I consider dishonest

companies like AIT. To investigate if this is the case, just do a whois

lookup at netsol.com for the host's main domain name. If you find

something like 'ns0.aitcom.net' as the name server or any allusion to

NameServices.Net, go someplace else with your business.

Fortunately I am still within the 60 day period to dispute the charge on

my credit card for services not rendered.

Lesson learned 'google' first, signup later!

I wouldn't put faith into what you are saying about AIT. AIT is a decent sized provider who is going to have problems regardless of their internal policies. In addition, this "aitsucks.com" website is meanspirited and misguided. It catalogues (at least the 10 or so links I bothered to click on) a users issues with their own content which they are responsible for (and are trying to point the blame on their provider), their misunderstanding of the nature of an internet WORM (NIMDA) and what resolution to take with an infected system they are concerned about, and their general harrasment of AIT employees.

I am surprised AIT did not bring the entire website down for having an unsecure CGI script before most of that had even been started.

Honestly, I think you could have done a much better job of outlining why to choose a different provider than referencing that website. I am not defending AIT by any means, but I do not think that your review of them included any real merit.

imho.

Good comment. Yes, I have to agree with you. Especially since the thread is what host is good, not which one is bad.
