Not necessarily. Sometimes cheap hosting is just a bargain, but at the same time you get quality service---which is what it all comes down to. Clients want a "people person" who is available & willing to answer questions 24/7. People want the best possible service for the best prices.

Alot of web hosting companies that offer low prices on their shared and virtual hosting plans, are normally start-off companies. However, there are some hosting firms that advertise low cost plans such as these, to gain volume. Once a company has volume and the support, service and other company promises are up to par, the customer will remain a customer, even when prices flucuate to a higher level. Even some of your more expensive hosting providers do not offer very good technical support, sometimes poor service and uptime.

Low cost hosts does not mean that they would always provide low quality service. Low cost hosts many a times imply that they are economical and do not burden their clients with unnecessary fees. We provide 100 MB space for $2 a month and we are hosted with one of the best datacentres which offers 99.99% uptime and a lot more. What makes a difference is friendly support. Clients need an interaction medium where they can put up their questions and queries comfortably without being troubled and get responses on time.

yes 100MB is fine, but you have hosting companies out here that offer 1,2 or maybe even 3 gigs of space, and 5 gb bandwidth. In the first place there is no room for profit there. Companies like these OFTEN have very sore support and customer service skills. "You get what you pay for" that is especially in web hosting, I believe

I would disagree. It's just a myph that cheap companies have bad support. Most of the time bigger companies forget there clients and we had a lot of cases when customer leaves his big provider because support doesnt reply for weeks. I have real example and if someone needs I can name companies.
About big space is another myth that big companies created. For those who really doesn't know the cost of 1GB on the market can just simply do math and see that you can buy 1GB for as low as $0.45. So a company with plan from $50 a year can easily make money offering gigabytes of space.

However, you're making a few mistakes here...
1) A cheap company isn't necessarily a small company... we're only talking about the cost of the service, not the size of the company.
2) Disk space isn't the only thing that costs to run a web hosting business... you also have to factor in server management costs, software licenses, not to mention staff wages. Also, for the most basic of servers, lets use a Celeron 2.4GHz with an 80GB Hard Drive... that would cost lets say for arguments sake $80/month. Now, i'd like to know where you got the 45c from? A reseller account... possibly, but most likely because the main host is overselling to begin with.

Ok, enough of my rant for now :P

That's right, cheap company is not always small, 1and1 for example.
As for hard drive space, I'd say it's one of the main and vivid features that users chose, that's why I took this as an example. Of course, it's not the only expense for hosting company.

Hello all,

This is my first time on this forum.

I just recently started researching website providers and I am surprised at the lack of spell checking on websites and this forum.

This makes me wonder where these websites originate from ? Are a lot of them out of the USA ?

I have had problems communicating by phone with PC support because of the language barrier as I suppose many of you have.

Is this an indicator of potential problems with a website provider or can problems usually be handled by email ?

Thank you,

LeRoy

Your web hosting provider looks fine but the only problem is the support only by e-mail, I have very bad experiences when provider doesn’t have phone support.
