SWSOFT Hosting Summit Confirms Industry Upswing From the get go, this hosting gathering was upbeat. Hundreds of web hosts from across the globe participated and took in the marathon three day event that primarily featured a closer look at SWSOFT's roster of hosting automation tools and services.
SWSOFT's CEO, Serguei Beloussov presented a compelling case for hosters to rejoice as he confirmed the trends that will see the web hosting industry grow in the years to come. Full service providers will continue to prosper; virtualization is experiencing strong growth; Windows hosting is advancing worldwide; discount dedicated is making strides in the marketplace and discount/advanced shared hosting continues to be a driving force.
There is plenty of room for growth also. Blog hosting and game hosting has seen "reasonable success" and there is plenty of room for improvement. Hosted Exchange and SharePoint LCS will take off in the next two years and we'll see opportunities continue to rise for free Web and email hosting.
If that didn't put a smile on the Web hosts' faces the Cruise on the Potomac River certainly did. This was quite possibly one of the best venues to relax, network or catch up with old industry colleagues. It was also a place to get a glimpse into what Web hosts worldwide are thinking about. There is concern that Microsoft and Google would invade the industry but as one shared provider put it: "Yahoo! came into the market and we didn't lose sales...in fact it put shared hosting on the map. As long as we keep up our marketing tactics and take care of our customers, our business is still in great shape."
Bottom line: Good Products, Good Pricing and Good Promotion rule the day. You'll hear plenty more of that at HostingCon on July 17-19, 2006 at The Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Visit TopHosts.Com at Booth 424.

Mobile Search Is Moving On Up
Find it on your phone...
Everyone knows how search advertising is driving the growth of online advertising. Now mobile search may be positioned to do the same for wireless ad revenues.
According to new figures from JumpTap (as seen in eMarketer), a provider of mobile search technology, mobile carriers saw revenue increases of 8% last month on mobile search. Click-through rates on mobile searches of 36% and a 4% increase in unique users are fueling revenue growth, with the average revenue per search increasing to $2.73.
Tracking the recent trends in mobile search metrics, following searches for individual music artists, with searches for Eminen leading the list, JumpTap found that the most queries were concentrated in the ringtone and adult content categories.
The query categories that showed the fastest growth were TV programs, theme songs, weather and temperature and sports.
